I'm Naa Larteley, a contemporary artist from Ghana and the person behind Art by Lartelé.
I've always been drawn to the little things that make life feel personal: a chipped plate from the first china you ever bought, a faded pair of jeans your great aunt got you for christmas years ago, an old ipod that you worked all vacation to buy. These things easy to disregard and overlook, but they're often the things we remember years later.
The memories those moments and objects fill are what I like to capture and immortalize.
I am a hopeless romantic who loves art, music, food, anime and Japanese culture.
I'm a Christian and a strong believer in God. My faith sometimes inspires my work.
Romanticizing everyday life isn't just what I paint—it's how I naturally move through the world.
I work mainly with oil pastels, acrylics and mixed media to explore memory, identity, faith, becoming, and the beauty that exists in everyday life.
The ordinary has a way of holding our stories, and I like to imagine my paintings as small records of those stories.
I hope the work gives people permission to slow down, notice what's already around them, and perhaps see their own lives a little differently.
